That is where Urban Sync begins.

What is Urban Sync about?

At the center of Urban Sync is Alex, a young freelance illustrator who has moved to Milan for work. Like many people trying to make a life in a big city.
He has to navigate everyday challenges while figuring out his place in the world.
He shares his life with Matteo, his roommate and best friend, and Pancio, a cat who is definitely not your average pet.

Then an unexpected event changes everything: Alex finds himself caught up in a world of superpowers, unpredictable characters, and villains who seem to know more than they should. Suddenly, the challenges of everyday life become part of a much bigger adventure.
Combining urban fantasy, superhero fiction, humor, and social satire, Urban Sync brings the extraordinary into a familiar contemporary setting.
Because sometimes, life in a big city is already complicated enough. Add superpowers to the equation, and things can get even more unpredictable.

A story born from real life in Milan

Urban Sync was born from our everyday experience of Milan — the city where we were born and raised, and the place we know not just as a setting, but as home.
Over the past few years, we have watched our city change. Alongside its energy, creativity, and opportunities, we have also seen how the cost of living and the challenges of building a life here have become increasingly important parts of the conversation.
Our work as Italian language teachers has given us another perspective on these changes. Through conversations with our international students, we have listened to their experiences of living in Milan: the difficulties they have
faced, the impact of rising living costs, and the challenges of finding their place in a new city and culture.

These are not just abstract issues or headlines. They are personal experiences, everyday struggles, and stories told by people trying to make Milan their home.
That is one of the starting points of Urban Sync: looking at Milan through the eyes of those who live here, those who are trying to find their place here, and those who are discovering the city for the first time.
We wanted to take some of these observations and transform them into a fictional world where humor, fantasy, and social satire could coexist. A world where extraordinary events unfold against the backdrop of recognizable urban problems, and where the absurd can sometimes reveal something surprisingly real.
Urban Sync is not a documentary, nor is it intended to offer simple answers to complex issues. It is our creative way of exploring the contradictions of contemporary city life — and of turning some of those everyday experiences into an unexpected adventure.
Because sometimes, before inventing a fictional world, all you need to do is pay attention to the one outside your window.

Milan beyond the postcards

When people think of Milan, they often picture the magnificent Duomo, designer boutiques, fashion shows, and impressive architecturehttps://chiaratheitalianteacher.com/it/milano-capitale-della-moda-italiana-e-internazionale/.
But there is another side to the city. Milan is also made up of people rushing to work, searching for affordable
housing, sharing apartments, pursuing professional opportunities, and trying to balance their ambitions with their personal lives.

For people moving to Milan, especially from another country, the experience can be exciting and challenging at the same time. Discovering a new culture means learning how things work, adapting to unfamiliar routines, and finding a sense of belonging.
These everyday experiences make Milan an interesting setting for a story about ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances.
Through Urban Sync, we wanted to explore this contrast: the gap between the city people imagine and the city they actually experience.
For international readers, the comic also offers a glimpse of contemporary Italian life through fiction rather than a traditional travel guide.
And if you have ever lived in a big city, you may recognize some of these experiences, even if your own life has never involved mysterious villains or superpowers.

Meet the creators behind Urban Sync

We are Nai Comicart Studio, an independent creative duo from Milan, Italy.
I’m Chiara Profeti, the writer behind Urban Sync, and Fabio Pavanini is the artist who brings our characters and their world to life.

Together, we develop the story, characters, and visual world of the comic, combining our creative skills to build an original narrative inspired by contemporary life.
As independent creators, we have the opportunity to explore the themes that interest us, experiment with storytelling, and bring our own perspective to the world of comics.
Urban Sync is our way of turning observations, ideas, and everyday contradictions into a fictional universe where humor and fantasy can coexist with recognizable human experiences.
Creating an independent webcomic also means building a relationship with readers beyond traditional publishing channels. Through platforms such as GlobalComix, we can share our work with people from different countries and cultural backgrounds.
And that is one of the most exciting parts of the journey: seeing a story rooted in our own city reach readers around the world.

As independent creators, we are bringing Urban Sync to life without the backing of a traditional publisher. We are building this universe with passion, dedication and the support of people who believe in original stories. That’s why we’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign: to make our project a reality and give Urban Sync the chance to reach its full potential. If you’d like to support our journey and become part of this adventure, you can find our campaign here: https://sostieni.link/41430. Comics, Italian culture, and learning Italian

There is another important part of our professional lives: we also teach Italian as a second language.
Through our work as Italian language teachers, we help international students develop their language skills and discover the culture behind the words.
We believe that learning a language involves much more than grammar rules and vocabulary lists. It also means understanding how people communicate, what they find funny, how they interact, and how everyday life shapes the way they express themselves.
Stories can be a wonderful way to explore these connections.
Comics bring together dialogue, images, gestures, expressions, and visual storytelling. They give readers context and allow them to connect with characters and situations in a way that goes beyond words alone.
For people learning Italian, comics can be an engaging way to explore contemporary culture. For readers who are not studying the language, they offer another opportunity to discover stories created in Italy.
Although Urban Sync is available in English, its setting and creative origins are deeply connected to Milan and our experience of living and working here.
You don’t have to be learning Italian to enjoy an Italian story. Sometimes, all you need is a compelling character, an unusual premise, and the curiosity to turn the next page.
